IRS: Social Security tax fraud hits GeorgiaAtlanta Business Chronicle
The Internal Revenue Service has discovered a scam in Georgia involving filing a federal income tax return to get a refund on Social Security taxes paid.
The IRS said the scheme usually works by the victim paying the scam operator a fee for preparation of a false refund claim and possibly a percentage of any refund received. This hoax fleeces the victims for the up-front preparation fee. Plus, the law does not allow such a refund of Social Security taxes paid, so participants could be subject to a penalty for filing a false tax return.
"The IRS is very concerned that some people in the metro Atlanta area have fallen for this scam," said IRS spokesman Mark Green. "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Getting a refund of Social Security taxes is generally not an option and, in this case, it’s not legal."
The federal government discovered the scam when workers in the Atlanta IRS office noticed several people coming in and asking for copies of their Social Security income statements. When questioned, some of the people explained a person was preparing refund claims for them.
The IRS said it is still gathering information and working to stop the scam. But taxpayers who got a refund from one of the false claims before the scam was detected must return the funds. If they have cashed the check, the IRS said it will usually work with them to arrange an immediate return of the funds.
No, I haven’t seen this and thank you for sharing this information.
where do i mail GA-8453OL?
18.September, 2009
I filed my return electroncially, however Georgia says to print and mail in form GA-8453OL along with w’2, however when I printed out the form to mail in, there’s no address, and after looking over the Ga Dept of Revenue site, the only thing I find says NOT to mail???
The state of Georgia does not require that the taxpayer send in the taxpayer’s GA-8453OL. Be sure to attach state copies of all documents substantiating withholding and retain for 3 years after the due date. I just found this out from TaxBrain Knowledge Base.
Are illegal aliens using the S.S. numbers of their U.S. born children?
16.September, 2009
Is this another reason to stop birthright citizenship?
Should illegal aliens who commit document fraud such as this be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law?
In this article children are the targets of document fraud. Do you believe they are using their U.S born childrens identities? (I know the article does not say this, but with so many cases, you know it is a huge possibility.)
What is going to happen to these children when they become of age?

Illegal, But Not Undocumented: Identity Theft, Document Fraud, And Illegal Employment
By Ronald W. Mortensen
Center for Immigration Studies
This Backgrounder examines illegal immigration-related document fraud and identity theft that is committed primarily for the purpose of employment.
It debunks three common misconceptions: illegal aliens are “undocumented;” the transgressions committed by illegal aliens to obtain jobs are minor; and illegal-alien document fraud and identity theft are victimless crimes.
It discusses how some community leaders rationalize these crimes, contributing to a deterioration of the respect for laws in our nation, and presents a variety of remedies, including more widespread electronic verification of work status (E-Verify and the Social Security Number Verification Service) and immigrant outreach programs to explain the ramifications and risks of document fraud and identity theft.
The findings include:
Illegal immigrants are not “undocumented.” They have fraudulent documents such as counterfeit Social Security cards, forged drivers licenses, fake “green cards,” and phony birth certificates.
Experts suggest that approximately 75 percent of working-age illegal aliens use fraudulent Social Security cards to obtain employment.
Most (98 percent) Social Security number (SSN) thieves use their own names with stolen numbers.
The federal E-Verify program, now mandated in only 14 states, can detect this fraud.
Universal, mandatory use of E-Verify would curb this and stop virtually 100 percent of child identity theft.
Illegal immigration and high levels of identity theft go hand-in-hand.
States with the most illegal immigration also have high levels of job-related identity theft.
In Arizona, 33 percent or all identity theft is job-related (as opposed to identity theft motivated simply by profit).
In Texas it is 27 percent; in New Mexico, 23 percent; in Colorado, 22 percent; California, 20 percent; and in Nevada, 16 percent.
Eight of the 10 states with the highest percentage of illegal aliens in their total population are among the top 10 states in identity theft (Arizona, California, Florida, Texas, Nevada, New York, Georgia, and Colorado).
Children are prime targets. In Arizona, it is estimated that over one million children are victims of identity theft.
In Utah, 1,626 companies were found to be paying wages to the SSNs of children on public assistance under the age of 13.
These individuals suffer very real and very serious consequences in their lives.
Illegal aliens commit felonies in order to get jobs. Illegal aliens who use fraudulent documents, perjure themselves on I-9 forms, and commit identity theft in order to get jobs are committing serious offenses and are not “law abiding.”
Illegally employed aliens send billions of dollars annually to their home countries, rather than spending it in the United States and helping stimulate the American economy.
In October 2008 alone, $2.4 billion was transferred to Mexico.
Tolerance of corruption erodes the rule of law. Corruption is a serious problem in most illegal aliens’ home countries.
Allowing it to flourish here paves the way for additional criminal activity and increased corruption throughout society.
Leaders support perpetrators and ignore victims. Political, civic, religious, business, education, and media leaders blame Americans for “forcing” illegal aliens to commit document fraud and identity theft. No similar concern is expressed for the American men, women, and children whose lives are destroyed in the process.
The Social Security Administration and Internal Revenue Service facilitate illegal immigrant-driven identity theft. Both turn a blind eye to massive SSN fraud and take no action to stop it. The Social Security Administration assigns SSNs to new-born infants that are being used illegally. The IRS demands that victims pay taxes on wages earned by illegal aliens using their stolen SSNs, while taking no action to stop the identity theft.
State and local governments need to adopt tougher laws to supplement federal efforts. The Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is targeting large document fraud rings and the most egregious employers, but their resources are limited and stretched across multiple priorities. In 2007, identity theft cases represented only 7 percent of the total ICE case loa
Funny how advocates all use splc and we know they are very unreliable. Here are my sources:
SPLC names "hate group" based on something they didn’t promote – 4/10/2009
This is a wonderful article that tells all about splc and morris dees. They are a very unreliable group.

Now I am Joel. Wow. advocates make up lies when the truth is told.
Well did you notice that no one seems to deny the facts you write about? Attack the source!
Even a brain dead pro-ciminal can not deny that low life illegal scum use children’s SSNs to work illegally in the US!
Pro-criminals are always saying that illegal aliens pay taxes (the FBI disagrees). How do they pay those taxes?
1) Felony identity theft
2) ITIN? It is a felony to use an ITIN to pay taxes on wages! (the ITIN was set up to pay taxes on INVESTMENT INCOME NOT wages!)
In other words if an illegal alien is paying taxes, he is committing a felony!
Would this be your perfect country?

We’ve decided we’re leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we’re taking the other Blue States with us.
In case you aren’t aware, that includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and the entire Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New California.
To sum up briefly:
You get Texas, Oklahoma, and all the slave states.
We get stem cell research and the best beaches.
We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood.
We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.
We get Harvard. You get Ole’ Miss.
We get 85 percent of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs.
You get Alabama.
We get two-thirds of the tax revenue; you get to make the red states pay their fair share.
Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms. Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we’re going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they’re apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don’t care if you don’t show pictures of their children’s caskets coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq, and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we’re not willing to spend our resources in Bush’s Quagmire.
With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country’s fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95 percent of America’s quality wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners) 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools, plus Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cal and MIT.
With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.
We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.
Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless we’re discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61 percent of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties. Wow…takes your breath away……….
By the way, we’re taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico.
no need for seperation, the whole country will be blue when obama wins by a landslide
what isthe window tint law in ga.? is there a new law going in effect soon?
12.September, 2009
A. what is the ‘legal limit’ for tint in the state of Georgia?
B. Did a new law go into effect recently- or will a new one go into effect sometime soon?
( my brother, cousin AND 2 friends ALL got tickets this past weekend– while in different areas. None of them have ‘tricked out’ rides. I figured they were enforcing a new law— or trying to get extra revenue before some ‘easier’ law goes into effect).

Will peanut poisoner be prosecuted? Or keep his profits?
10.September, 2009
Stewart Parnell is President and CEO of Peanut Corporation of America, which has knowingly shipped salmonella-tainted peanut products which have killed 8 people so far.
But he turned a good profit:
"Parnell had the experience and management skills sought by the Georgia plant owner, and the two formed a partnership. Parnell and his new partner have tripled the revenue in the Georgia plant in the three years since. That plant, Parnell said, is profitable for the first time in 15 years."

"FDA: Plant Knowingly Shipped Out Tainted Peanut Butter"
"To the salmonella outbreak now — there are reports this evening that Peanut Corporation of America knowingly shipped out products with salmonella. The FDA used the federal anti-terrorism law to get the company to turn over its inspection records. Georgia’s state agriculture commissioner says when their internal tests were positive for salmonella, the company retested at another lab to get a passing grade. 500 people, including four in Arkansas, have gotten sick — eight people have died."
The Georgia food plant that federal investigators say knowingly shipped contaminated peanut butter also had mold growing on its ceiling and walls, and it has foot-long gaps in its roof, according to results of a federal inspection.

……
In each case, the report states, “after the firm retested the product and received a negative status, the product was shipped in interstate commerce.”
It is illegal for a company to continue testing a product until it gets a clean test, said Michael Taylor, a food safety expert at George Washington University

I need help figuring out what kind of car this is?
08.September, 2009
I just got home from school and checked the mail, and in it was a big envelope that said "State of Georgia Department of Revenue" and some other stuff about motor vehicle license plates and registration. My 17th birthday is Thursday and I think I’m getting a car. I know there is a license plate in the envelope, I can feel it and its so obvious. But I wanted to know if I can put in the license plate ID anywhere and figure out what kind of car my parents got me?
I figured out what the license plate said without opening the envelope by getting a piece of paper and a pencil and shading the paper over the envelope, and the engraved letters & numbers stood out on the paper. So I know the license plate ID…is there any way to find out what car is registered to it? Thanks in advance.
Wouldn’t you rather be surprised? I guess not. After all your only 17. But one thing you should know. If the envelope is from the state and has a license plate then you could be absolutely positive that there is ALSO a registration in the envelope with the plate. On this document will be the year & make of the vehicle. Don’t tell anyone I told you. Happy Birthday, BTW. Enjoy the car and be safe and smart about driving.
Is there a form I can file to change my address on my state taxes?
06.September, 2009
I easily found the form to change my address on my federal taxes, but I can’t find one to change the address for my state taxes. I live in Georgia, and I’m filing to the Georgia Dept. Of Revenue. I got a friend of mine to do my taxes for me, but somehow I forgot to mention my address changed. I can talk to him again to figure this out, but if it’s just a simple form that I can download and send it in with my taxes, that would be easier. If it makes a difference, I’m filing ‘07 and ‘08 taxes. I didn’t make enough in ‘07 to have to file.
If I don’t change my address on the state taxes, won’t it be hard for them to send me my refund check?
The change of address can be submitted via email to ctaxreg@dor.ga.gov or you can call (404) 417-4490.
