Maximizing revenue word problem?
22.November, 2009
Suppose that the management of the Ajax Dryer Company has determined that when the unit price is x dollars, the revenue R in dollars is R(x)= -4x^2+2400x.
What unit price should be established to maximize the revenue?
A. 200
B.250
C.300
D.350
E.400
We know this is a parabola so if we find the x value at the peak we know it is the maximum.
We also know that maximum occurs when the slope of the parabola is zero, so we can set the first dirivative of R(x) to zero and solve for x.
R(x)= -4x^2+2400x
R’(x) = -8x +2400
Set to zero
-8x +2400 = 0
x = 300
The unit price should be $300 for maximum revenue.

What are the advantages of having a CA firm offer you management consultancy services as well?
14.November, 2009
Creating an advertising campaign for a small CA firm that offers management consultancy including start up incubation, new business plan, entry strategy, marketing and revenue models etc. Would like an insight, especially form entrepreneurs and start up businesspeople on how they would view such services from a CA firm. What could be the possible pluses and minuses according to you?
Well, this is just my opinion. You should only do the advertising campaign OR the financial models. Doing both kind of puts you in a position where you can be manipulated. See for example, the Enron fiasco and what was it? Anderson & Anderson accounting firm? Enron fell because they used the same people who did their books as management consultants as well. Very easy to manipulate people who are essentially getting double paychecks.
This CA firm sounds smaller, but I sense that they are leading you into a trap if you do the management consultant thing as well as the advertising campaign.

… and if possible please let me know what a feeder market is talking about hotels revenue management?
A feeder market is a key area where the hotel’s patrons come from. For example, a large number of Japanese Tourists stay in Hawaii, so Japan is said to be a feeder market for Hawaiian Tourism. Understanding your feeder markets will help determine where a hotel should spend their advertising dollars.
What Small Business Software Do You Need The Most?
31.October, 2009
As a small business starting out what business software would you regard as being an must have?
Such as Management Information System, CRM, Order Management System???
I am going to develop small business software using the latest technology but need to some help in what direction will generate the most interest and revenue from small companies.
Thanks
Noon dont worry about the time or technology, I am using WPF and Silverlight which is just in its early stages and will be the future of windows development, also it will only take me 6 months .
It will take you two years if you want to compete with the software that’s already available, such as Quicken and so many others. By that time technology will have advanced, and your software will be out of date.
Lucent Technologies Management?
29.October, 2009
Executive Summary We design and deliver the systems, software and services that drive next-generation communications networks. Backed by Bell Labs research and development, we use our strengths in mobility, optical, access, data and voice networking technologies, as well as services, to create new revenue-generating opportunities for our customers, while enabling them to quickly deploy and better manage their networks. Our customer base includes communications service providers, governments and enterprises worldwide. We have three segments organized around the products and services we sell. The reportable segments are Integrated Network Solutions (“INS”), Mobility Solutions (“Mobility”) and Lucent Worldwide Services (“Services”). INS provides a broad range of software and wireline equipment related to voice networking (primarily consisting of switching products, which we sometimes refer to as convergence solutions, and voice messaging products), data and network management (primarily consisting of access and related data networking equipment and operating support software) and optical networking. Mobility provides software and wireless equipment to support radio access and core networks. Services provides deployment, maintenance, professional and managed services in support of both our product offerings as well as multi-vendor networks. Beginning in fiscal 2001, the global telecommunications market deteriorated, resulting from a decrease in the competitive local exchange carrier market and a significant reduction in capital spending by established service providers. This trend intensified during fiscal 2002 and continued into fiscal 2003. Reasons for the market deterioration included general economic slowdown, network overcapacity, customer bankruptcies, network build-out delays and limited availability of capital. We believe that the market for telecommunications equipment has stabilized and is starting to grow in certain areas. The growing demands of enterprises and consumers for additional services tailored to their needs is creating the need for a new convergence of networks, technologies and applications. Required 1. Using the Consolidated Balance Sheets for Lucent Technologies for September 30, 2004 and 2003, prepare a common-size balance sheet. 2. Evaluate the asset, debt, and equity structure of Lucent Technologies, as well as trends and changes found on the common-size balance sheet. 3. What concerns would investors and creditors have based on only this information? 4. What additional financial and nonfinancial information would investors and creditors need to make investing and lending decisions for Lucent Technologies? LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES INC.
