How Is Achievement Defined
08.April, 2010
For the humanist, the ultimate definition of achievement is the reaching and fulfilling the need for self actualization. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, the self actualizing need ranks at the top of the hierarchy. The goal of self actualization can never be reached until each subsequent need is fulfilled adequately (class lecture 6-8-04). According to the humanist theory, an individual never has the potential of becoming self actualized until he has each need along the needs hierarchy met. The self-actualized person is described as a person who has an intense desire to live from his highest self. Humanists believe that humans are innately good.
