Did you know science proves you can’t argue with a conservative?
28.September, 2009
A new study out of Yale University confirms what argumentative liberals have long-known: Offering reality-based rebuttals to conservative lies only makes conservatives cling to those lies even harder. In essence, schooling conservatives makes them more stupid. From the Washington Post article on the study, which came out yesterday:
Political scientists Brendan Nyhan and Jason Reifler provided two groups of volunteers with the Bush administration’s prewar claims that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. One group was given a refutation — the comprehensive 2004 Duelfer report that concluded that Iraq did not have weapons of mass destruction before the United States invaded in 2003. Thirty-four percent of conservatives told only about the Bush administration’s claims thought Iraq had hidden or destroyed its weapons before the U.S. invasion, but 64 percent of conservatives who heard both claim and refutation thought that Iraq really did have the weapons. The refutation, in other words, made the misinformation worse.
A similar "backfire effect" also influenced conservatives told about Bush administration assertions that tax cuts increase federal revenue. One group was offered a refutation by prominent economists that included current and former Bush administration officials. About 35 percent of conservatives told about the Bush claim believed it; 67 percent of those provided with both assertion and refutation believed that tax cuts increase revenue.
In a paper approaching publication, Nyhan, a PhD student at Duke University, and Reifler, at Georgia State University, suggest that Republicans might be especially prone to the backfire effect because conservatives may have more rigid views than liberals: Upon hearing a refutation, conservatives might "argue back" against the refutation in their minds, thereby strengthening their belief in the misinformation. Nyhan and Reifler did not see the same "backfire effect" when liberals were given misinformation and a refutation about the Bush administration’s stance on stem cell research.
MOST OF YOU JUST PROVED THE POINT THE STUDY IS MAKING. Congratulations
I’m certain you haven’t read the report. Because if you had, it stated the evidence of activity of WMD as well as evidence of other UN banned activity existed. That means 35% believed it before they had any proof whatsoever, but once truth of activity was verified by multiple nations, 67% then believed the evidence. Spin, spin, spin little fly.

And yet it was found out that those with conservative views are more likely to read material that opposes their beliefs than those with liberal views.
I guess Liberals are not so open minded after all.
EDIT: Actually, all you have proven is that you are projecting. Thanks for playing.

If you’re not qualified to argue with a conservative, you will usually resort to name-calling and fictitious scandals, like liberals usually do.

Did you know Liberalism is classed as a Mental Disease by the American Psychiatric Association?
In a bold move that already has stirred much controversy inside and outside of the medical community, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) has made sweeping changes to its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the main reference work for psychotherapists and the profession’s Leviticus of mental hygienics. Due for release in June, the DSM V, as it already is known, will be shortened from 886 pages to 92 pages. The new edition will include a detailed profile of Compulsive Civil Control Psychosis, or CCCP, the medical term for the newly discovered disorder that causes symptoms of what is commonly called “liberalism”. The spokesperson for the Association, Dr. Margaret Kincaid, explained this morning that the APA Board’s unanimous decision to include CCCP in the new diagnostic guidelines was motivated in part by “the recent pandemic outbreak diagnosed by member psychotherapists nationwide.”

Most of the conservatives on here are anti-science. Global warming, evolution, stem cells, everything scientific is their enemy. Yet, they use computers to gripe about it.

I think you are confused.

I suspect that this same study, premised around a different world event, would produce a similar result in liberals.
Both sides have dogmatic, hard headed fools.
