Kiwi Bird – Did You Ever See One?
10.April, 2010
Did you ever see a Kiwi bird? Doggone lucky if you did. Unless you live in, or travel to, certain islands near New Zealand where they are easier to find. The Kiwi bird is actually the national bird of New Zealand.
These Kiwi birds are small nondescript brown fluffy looking birds with rather longish legs compared to their body size and a very long bill with nostrils on the far end. They are brown. The Kiwi birds find food underground with that odd bill. They are flightless so they get around by running on the ground or across the rocks. Because they are so vulnerable they are active at night. I saw them in a special zoo exhibit and cannot wait to see them in their natural habitat in New Zealand.
