Skiing in Cervinia, Italy
12.April, 2010
Essential Info: This resort is over the Italian side of the Matterhorn (or Cervino, in Italian). The high, sunny, snow-sure pistes are set out more than a valley head – wide runs which all lead back down towards the village. The area links up with the slopes of Zermatt at the best, making a massive 350km of runs.
Excellent for: Delicious Italian food that is not going to break the bank at the mountain restaurants in eye-catching chalets (attempt the Chalet Etoile), and also lots of good pizza joints, in addition to several treats like the Baita Cretaz restaurant – only accessible by skidoo as soon as the lifts are shut down.
Added bonus: Runs all remain broad, gentle plus steady right towards the base. And the town is compact enough to be able to allow older kids go searching the shops by themselves.
